The mad dog (detail)

The mad dog - detail

Luc De Boes (°1963) based in Herentals, Belgium.

My artwork arises from things I observe, see, or feel. Straight on paper or canvas in my studio, some of my work derives from the drawings made on the drawing tablet whilst traveling. These drawings and writings often form the basis to continue working upon…

The resulting works suggest open-ended stories rather than fixed meanings, inviting the viewer into a space where image, material, and imagination intersect.

Not caught in one style, depends on the topic, the surrounding, how the story unfolds in my mind. Sometimes very recognizable and figurative, sometimes in an abstract expression.

Sober in color or abundantly using the full color range. Thick layers of oil paint, or less paint and more other materials such as charcoal, pastel, crayons, collage, etc.

Words, text is (almost) everywhere an important part in my work. Can be a full story line one can read, but many times words appear, are inserted and become part of the painting. For the viewer is not required to read them, it was the artist need to use them. And so, from one story unfolds another…

All work is signed with my logo, not with my name.

This bird-like figure has been my personal sign since childhood and has been my signature ever since.
